Meanings of SI prefixes | The SI uses convenient sub-units and multiples, as given in the table
above. For example, a kilometer, abbreviated km, is 1000 meters. For another,
the length of the year is 31.6 million seconds, or 31.6 Ms. (For those
who remember that p = 3.14159..., it may be
convenient to think of the year as being close to 10p
Ms.)
For use in formulas, the mass should be in kg, it is best to think of a gram as a milli-kilogram. (Oh, for a better name for the mass unit!) |
